Amaravati, October 31 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday directed officials to focus on protection of submerged crops as part of relief measures in areas affected by Cyclone Month.
He said that submerged agricultural areas should be identified through satellite images and water evacuation measures should be initiated on war footing.
During a teleconference with officials on Friday, the Chief Minister said that officials should focus on improving the drainage system to protect standing crops that are submerged in water.
He said that public representatives should also visit the fields and monitor the situation and protect the crops. Naidu said that scientists’ advice should be taken for the safety of crops.
Officials told the Chief Minister that 60 percent of the agricultural fields in Bapatla area are still under water and they are making efforts to drain the water.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to submit a preliminary report on the crop loss to the Central Government so that a central team can be invited to assess the crop loss.
CM Naidu said that he will talk to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and inform him about the damage caused by the cyclone.
The Chief Minister took information from the officials about the flood flow in the Krishna River.
He directed to honor the officers who performed excellently in the Month cyclone relief work. A felicitation ceremony should be organized on Saturday to honor hundred such officers.
Meanwhile, in another review meeting with officials of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), the Chief Minister directed them to expedite the Amaravati development works and complete them as per the target. He took information from the officials about the progress of development works and asked them to give top priority to maintaining quality in the works.
He said that the work should be expedited by the concerned construction companies by deploying necessary machinery and personnel.
The Chief Minister said that registration of refundable plots allotted to farmers who have given land in Amravati should be completed immediately. Officials said registrations of returnable plots of 2,471 farmers were pending due to technical issues.
The Chief Minister said that he will soon meet the farmers of the capital region. He said that greenery should be given priority and there should be no compromise in beautification and gardening. He said that iconic structures and tall towers are necessary to give Amravati city a world-class look.
