Visakhapatnam airport director N Purushotham said two Air India Express flights were canceled on October 27.
“Actually, we are operating 30 to 32 flights daily, domestically and internationally,” Purushottam told PTI. Today all those flights have been cancelled.
He said that apart from the two Air India Express flights that were canceled on Monday, the remaining 30 flights were operated on October 27.
Furthermore, he said the airport has taken precautions to protect against severe cyclonic storms, covering pre-cyclone and post-cyclone phases, as per Airports Authority of India (AAI) guidelines.
Similarly, Vijayawada airport canceled 16 flights today but managed to operate five flights.
Vijayawada Airport Director Laxmikant Reddy said, “Yesterday (Monday) only one flight to Vizag was cancelled. But today, 16 flights to various destinations across the country including Delhi, Mumbai were cancelled.”
According to Reddy, the airlines have decided to suspend operations for today, adding that clarity regarding tomorrow’s flight operations may emerge by evening.
Similarly, four flights were canceled at Tirupati airport.
Meanwhile, a total of 120 trains were canceled in the South Central Railway (SCR) zone on October 27 and Tuesday, a railway official said.
