Mumbai, Oct 16 (IANS) Maharashtra School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse on Thursday said industries should provide funds under corporate social responsibility (CSR) to provide various facilities in schools across the state.
The minister said, “More than two crore students are studying in more than one lakh schools in the state. These students are provided quality education based on the concept of Nation First. Various facilities are provided in schools through the government. Along with this, various industries also cooperate through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, but bringing harmony in this, this fund should be used as per the needs of the schools and students.”
Minister Bhuse today interacted with CSR heads of various industries and expressed hope that the industry and the government can work together and spend funds to provide and upgrade various facilities in schools across the state.
“With the feeling that we owe something to the society, many industries collaborate with schools and students through CSR funds, but they can also spend on providing various facilities in schools,” he said.
Minister Bhuse said, “The state government is implementing various schemes and initiatives keeping students at the centre. Along with teachers, clean drinking water, clean toilets, good buildings, laboratories and other facilities are provided in schools. Along with this, more information is provided on Vidyanjali portal keeping in mind the needs of students and schools. Industries should consider these needs and contribute so that more facilities can be made available to the students.”
Principal Secretary Ranjit Singh Deval said that CSR funds are being made available with the help of industries in the state. Information related to all schools and students in the state is available on the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) and the central government’s ‘Vidyanjali’ portal, and he expressed hope that the funds should be properly spent keeping in mind the needs of the schools.
He said that the demand of schools is being recorded on ‘Vidyanjali’ portal and that information will be used for proper planning of CSR.
He informed that the State Government has announced ‘Adopted School Scheme’ and if industries adopt schools through this medium, the name of the industry will be added to the name of the schools.
Deval gave a presentation on the current status of school education in the state, activities being undertaken by CSR and for which activities the government seeks support from industries through CSR funds.
Industry representatives, on their part, gave information about the areas in which they want to work.
