Crystal Palace are said to have held talks with Adi Hutter in addition to Roy Hodgson as Steve Parish aims to replace Patrick Vieira.
What’s the story?
Well – according to Sky Sports – Crystal Palace have held talks with the Austrian after handing Vieira his P45 on Friday morning.
Sky Sports believe Hutter has been spoken to, although Hodgson is the “clear frontrunner” to replace the Frenchman at Selhurst Park.
Now, everybody knows about Hodgson, so let’s focus on Hutter.
The 53-year-old was named VDV Coach of the Season at the end of the 2020/21 campaign after guiding Eintracht Frankfurt to the Europa League Semi-Final.
Hutter was also named Coach of the Year by German news outlet Bild in 2021, with his Eintracht Frankfurt side earning the Team of the Year title.
The Austrian then left to join Borussia Monchengladbach, but departed in May 2022 after a poor season which saw the Bundesliga side finish 10th in Germany’s top-flight.
Hutter has been unemployed ever since, so it would be fairly simple for Crystal Palace to hire him if he is interested in the vacancy at Selhurst Park.
Adi Hutter could help solve Crystal Palace issues
Looking at his track record, Hutter would seem to be a better fit for Crystal Palace right now than Hodgson, based on the fact the south Londoners need to improve their goalscoring record.
Hutter has seen his sides score 1169 goals in 577 games throughout his managerial career, winning 304 of those outings as he made a name for himself as an attack-minded coach.
Crystal Palace recently became the first side on record to go three consecutive Premier League games without having a shot on target – according to Opta – and are without a goal in their last four matches.
Therefore, it would seem Hutter is a more suitable candidate for the task at hand – although Parish may not want to take the risk given the Austrian’s lack of Premier League experience.
