craig bellamy vowed to lead wales In “Vishal” euro 2028 still with his name In the frame for the celtic job,
Bellamy – who was under the spell of debt celtic During his playing career in 2005 – he said his focus was on the World Cup qualifying campaign which would involve Wales in the March playoffs.
But that hasn’t stopped Bellamy’s name being linked with a move to Celtic, who currently have Martin O’Neill and Sean Maloney in interim charge following Brendan Rodgers’ resignation.
Bellamy’s friend Joe Ledley insisted this week that his former Wales colleague would be a “perfect fit” for the job and that he would be “very interested” in doing so at the end of this season or in the future.
Ross Wallace, who played with Bellamy at Celtic and worked with him in Burnley’s academy, said the 46-year-old Welshman “hit all the boxes” for the Scottish champions.
But Bellamy’s Wales contract runs until Euro 2028 and the Dragons boss has expressed his desire to be involved in the UK and Ireland-hosted tournament, with the official launch taking place in London on Wednesday.
“It’s huge and it was always on my mind when I signed here,” Bellamy said of Euro 2028.
“I want it, I want the World Cup and I am everything for it.
“He’s an inspiration. I don’t know if the public has embraced it yet and it’s a long way off. But it’s huge.”
UEFA has said that England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland must qualify for Euro 2028.
But two spots in the final will be reserved if any of the host nations fails to qualify.
Cardiff’s Principality Stadium is set to host the opening game – and Wales are hoping to make their tournament debut on Welsh soil.
Playing at the home of Welsh rugby has been a point of controversy for many wales football fans in the past and the Dragons have not played in the 74,500 capacity stadium since 2018.
But Football Association of Wales chief executive Noel Mooney has said Bellamy’s team will play practice games at the Principality Stadium – which is set to stage six games at Euro 2028 – so they can become familiar with the venue and benefit from “home advantage”.
Bellamy, who is preparing for World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein and North Macedonia this week, said: “What gives us the best chance to win?
“I just look at it that way, no matter where it is. If.” wrexham Does, there we go. I think we’re looking too far into this.
“I would love to play anywhere in Wales, but we have to fill it. It has to be a full stadium. It doesn’t matter where we go, it has to be, because I believe it gives us the opportunity.
“If we are in the Euros and we know we are going to play at the Principality Stadium then it is absolutely perfect to be involved.
“There should be a lot of games in that period to get familiar with each other, to get the players comfortable. I would see it as common sense.”
