A Georgia court detained the leader of the opposition party Zarab Japraidaze on Thursday for appearing before a parliamentary investigation as protests continued against the ruling Georgian Dream Party.

“The governance is trying to kill the civil society,” said Japardaze. “They are killing opposition parties and this is just an example of what they are doing now.”
“We have to continue the fight; we have to go to the streets. We will only win this fight by road, because no democratic institutions are holding elections in this country now.”
Japaridaz and six other opposition leaders who did not join the Commission are expected to appear before a court in the coming days. If the Parliamentary Search is found guilty of failure to follow the Commission, they have to face up to one year imprisonment.
