Kolkata, September 18 (IANS) Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court prevention on Thursday dismissed the bail plea of Trinmool Congress MLA Jiban Krishna Saha, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the School Service Commission recruitment scam.
TMC MLA applied for bail on Thursday.
At the beginning of the hearing, Ed strongly opposed the bail application. The ED claimed that the money from the scam went into its bank accounts.
The money also went to the bank accounts of his family members. As a result, if he is granted bail, the investigation may be interrupted because he is an impressive person.
However, Jiban Krishna’s lawyer claimed that his client was not involved in corruption in any way. Therefore, he should be granted bail this time.
However, after hearing the arguments of all the parties, the judge rejected the bail plea and sent it to judicial custody.
Last month, Ed arrested TMC MLA from his house in Burvan in Murshidabad district.
TMC MLA tried to run away from his house by scaling a border wall and threw one of his two mobile phones into a bush.
However, he was stopped from escaping by ED officials who also recovered a mobile phone. He was arrested by the Central Investigation Agency when he failed to answer questions from ED officials about the lakh rupees found in bank accounts of his relatives.
In April 2023, Saha was arrested by the CBI in the same case. After 13 months, he was granted bail by the Supreme Court.
According to sources, ED officials have claimed in the court that the money from the scam has been deposited in the batch in the bank account of Jiban Krishna Saha.
The ED case is registered in alleged irregularities in the recruitment of Group C and D Staff, Class 9 to 12 and Assistant Teachers of Primary Teachers from CBI FIR registered on the orders of the Calcutta High Court.
The central agency has so far filed four charge sheets and arrested several major figures, including former state education minister Partha Chatterjee, his alleged colleague Arpita Mukherjee and former TMC MLA Manik Bhattacharya.
