Constant rainfall topls house in Poonch of J&K

Web Desk, 24/07/2025

Poonach, 24 July: A house was destroyed in the Mandi region amidst the continuous rains for the last three days, on Thursday in Bedar village in Jammu and Kashmir. The destroyed house was of Mohammad Sharif.

Speaking to ANI, Imtiaz Ahmed, a local resident, urged the administration to provide financial assistance to Sharif.

“I live in Panchayat Ward -2, bed. An advice was issued by the administration regarding landslides, urged people to stay at home. In the meantime, a house owned by Mohammad Sharif was damaged. We had already shifted half the family half of the family. Build their house elsewhere,” Ahmad said.

He said, “The house behind them has also been partially damaged and may collapse at any time. We request that the administration helps them immediately.”

On Wednesday, the water level in the Poonch river rose, inspired the state disaster response force (SDRF) to monitor the situation and deploy personnel to prevent casualties.

SDRF Poonch Assistant Sub-Operator Zakir confirmed that he had been deployed in the area by the district administration and the state government in view of the rainfall.
Zakir said, “We have been deployed here by the district administration and the state government. The area is receiving heavy rains. We have advised everyone to stay away from the water bodies. We are taking all the necessary precautions to stop any casualties. The water level has increased.”

Meanwhile, heavy rains at Kalakot Division in Rajouri district for three consecutive days trigge the landslide, damaged homes and blocked the road.

Assistant Development Commissioner (ADC) of Calcote, Tanveer Hussain Khan said that teams are working around the clock to address the situation. All schools, government and private, are closed for the second day due to heavy rains.
