Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) sells dairy products under the ‘Amul’ brand.
“We are exporting ghee here, but we will soon expand into many other products which are not only wanted by the Indian diaspora, but which can also go to the mainstream market,” Mehta told PTI.
He is part of a 60-member business delegation that came with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will visit Israel,
He said the company is already exporting to Israel and now they are working to comply with Israel’s kosher certification requirements to expand their market here.
Kosher requirements in Israel refer to religious dietary rules that determine which foods are acceptable for consumption under Jewish law.
Mehta explained that this is a kind of validation of the process that “we have to follow to take care of the core market of the local population”.
He said India is the largest producer of milk and Israel can offer its technology to increase the productivity of this sector.
“Our focus is to improve the productivity of our cattle…in feeding and animal management, we need technology…these are the things where Israel has done well,” he said, adding that their technology could help increase agricultural productivity of arid regions in India.
