Bhopal, Nov 19 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Leader of Opposition (LoP) Umang Singhar on Wednesday alleged that police have detained Congress workers ahead of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s visit to attend a public event in Panna district.
Singhar claimed that during the Panna tour, Congress workers were going to meet Chief Minister Yadav and submit a memorandum on local issues. However, even before the CM arrived, the district police took him into custody and placed him under house arrest.
Singhar said in the video message, “Congress workers wanted to meet Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and raise the complaints of local residents, but they were detained and put under house arrest.” He said, “Congress workers were not protesting there, they were raising public issues.”
However, the district police has not yet given any statement on the Congress’s allegation.
Chief Minister Yadav reached diamond city Panna from Khajuraho at 3 pm to participate in two programs in different assembly constituencies of the district and will announce development projects and inaugurate completed projects. According to the fixed schedule, CM Yadav will leave from Panna at 5:30 pm.
Madhya Pradesh’s Panna has recently achieved another milestone as the world famous diamonds of Panna have been awarded the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag, becoming the 21st GI product from the state.
This long-appreciated recognition will take Panna Diamonds to new heights, establishing a distinct identity at the national and international level and also significantly enhancing their brand value.
The GI tag, granted after a process launched on June 7, 2023, is expected to revolutionize the local diamond industry. Experts believe this will increase transparency, quality assurance and global recognition, create new employment opportunities in mining and benefit thousands of families.
This tag will also expand export possibilities, thereby substantially increasing the state’s revenue.
This will boost trade and attract tourists from India and abroad, which will give a new identity to Panna.
Panna, popularly known as ‘Diamond City’, is famous for its rich diamond mines and various types of precious gems.
There is an atmosphere of happiness among the people of Panna as their long standing demand has been fulfilled.
