New Delhi:
The Congress is all set to launch its campaign for the Lok Sabha elections next week, aimed at different age groups, party sources said on Friday. According to sources, the party has hired two big companies for publicity material and hoardings.
For the first time, the party will conduct new experiments in its media strategy. Sources said that in response to the centralized media campaigns of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the party Congress will launch local campaigns at the micro level.
Sources have said that Congress will also put up hoardings promising legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for farmers. Earlier, during the farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ march, the party had announced to provide legal guarantee of MSP to farmers if voted to power.
The oldest party will prepare its manifesto while paying special attention to farmers and youth. According to sources, the manifesto is being prepared in accordance with Rahul Gandhi’s slogan ‘As much population, as much right’.
The Congress has promised to conduct a nationwide caste census if voted to power and claimed that it will be helpful in policy-making for people of different communities based on their population.
Sources said that the meeting of the party’s manifesto committee will be held on March 4.
To speed up the election campaign, Congress has appointed one lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs).
Lok Sabha elections are likely to be held in April-May this year.
With the country’s political landscape undergoing a significant change, India Bloc, an alliance of 28 political parties formed to take on the BJP in the upcoming elections, is set to oppose the ruling party. The mega alliance has not yet announced its prime ministerial candidate.
Earlier in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had won 303 seats, while the Congress and its allies had gained 52 seats.
