New Delhi:

The Congress party on Tuesday claimed that Jyoti Mirda, another leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party after Anant Kumar Hegde, has publicly stated that the party aims to amend the constitution while insisting that it is a “Thoughtful strategy.”

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor shared an undated video of Ms Mirdha on X. Mirda, the BJP candidate from Nagaur in Rajasthan, will be speaking out in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls about the need for the saffron party to get a majority in the elections. Both houses of Parliament have the power to enact constitutional amendments.

“After Anant Hegde leaked the secret, the BJP leaders hurriedly stuffed him back and dropped him from the candidate list. Now, another BJP candidate has come out and said that the BJP The aim is to amend the Constitution,” Mr Tharoor said on X.

How many more candidates could the BJP reject for exposing the truth, he asked.

Reacting to Mr Tharoor’s post, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said on Raghavan also shared the video on the Weibo platform and said, “BJP candidate Jyoti Mirda from Nagaur in Rajasthan is talking about how the BJP plans to amend the constitution.” He said: “BJP MP Anant Hegde also said that if the BJP gets 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, they will amend the constitution.”

In the video, Mr Mirda said: “How many strong decisions need to be taken when the country is devastated. For their sake we have to make changes in the constitution. If any changes have to be made in the constitutional process then those of you Who knows this?” For our instruments, the Lok Sabha and the House of Federation, their functioning should be maintained (some tough decisions need to be taken in the interest of the country). We have to carry out constitutional amendments for them. If we have in order to amend The Constitution, as many of you know, we need the approval of both Houses of Parliament, the Lok Sabha and the Lok Sabha.” “Today, the BJP and the NDA have a huge majority in the Lok Sabha and there is no shortage among us, But even today, we do not have a majority in the Lok Sabha. If this is the third time that the NDA comes to power… (in the Lok Sabha), the Rajya Sabha, the BJP and the National Development Alliance have a massive mandate, but we have There is still no majority in the federal chamber. If the National Development Alliance government comes back to power for a third time…),” she allegedly said.

Responding to Mr Tharoor’s criticism, Ms Mirda said: “As I understand it, the objectives of the BJP are to serve the national and public interest as enunciated in democratic discourse. If the Constitution needs to be amended for these purposes, then so be it Let’s do it.” That’s it. “Recently, the secrets of the 106th Constitutional Amendment to the Women’s Reservation Act passed in September last year were leaked, and it seems that you have reluctantly extended a helping hand,” she said.

Ms Mirda also shared her clarification on the matter on The leaders have unnecessarily exaggerated, which in my opinion is not only unnecessary but completely undesirable.”

She said all the prominent people who criticized this were well versed in the law and the constitution.

“They all know that there have been 106 amendments to the Constitution from 1950 to last year. The latest historic amendment last year finally realized our decades-long dream of 33% reservation for women in Parliament, which is It also has strong support from these people in Parliament.

“In the past, many amendments were made to the constitution in the national and public interest,” Ms Mirda said.

“It must be said that our sacred Constitution is a living document that is revised from time to time keeping in mind the welfare of the people and the country,” she said.

In her clarification, Ms. Mirda said that the reference to Baba Saheb Ambedkar used to criticize me was also wrong, adding that he too had foreseen the need and therefore prescribed Amendment to Article 368 of the Constitution.

“Therefore, any political action directed at my statement does not reflect a healthy mindset,” she said.

The Congress party shared Ms Mirdha’s video on X and said in a post on X, “This is Jyoti Mirdha, the BJP candidate from Nagaur, Rajasthan ) to contest the election. Jyoti Mirdha said that to change the constitution, we need an overwhelming majority in both the House and the Senate. BJP MP Anant Hegde also said that if we Get 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections and we will amend the constitution.” “It is clear from these statements that the BJP and Prime Minister Modi hate the constitution and democracy. By abrogating the constitution framed by Babasaheb, the BJP Want to deprive people of their rights,” the Congress party claimed.

Mirda’s remarks came days after the BJP dropped Hegde, a six-time Lok Sabha member from North Kannada, from its list of candidates for the assembly elections.

Addressing a rally in Karnataka’s Karwar, Hegde said the BJP needs a two-thirds majority in both houses of Parliament to amend the constitution and “correct Congress’ distortions and unnecessary additions to the constitution “.
