Congress reminds PM Modi of promise to restore J&K state

The Congress on Wednesday announced that it would intensify its movement to restore Jammu and Kashmir to the restoration of the state, directed by the Supreme Court of India and repeatedly made the people of the erstwhile state by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC office here today, party general secretary and J&K CLP leader GA Mir, former Chief Minister of former MP Digvijaya Singh, General Secretary in -charge J&K and Ladakh Dr. Senior party leaders, including Naseer Hussain and Chief Spokesperson Jammu and Kashmir Ravinder Sharma, said that the common man said that he was a sub-division.

Ga Mir recalled that in June 2021, Prime Minister Modi convened a meeting of representatives of all political parties of JK and suggested delimitation, election and reinstatement of the state in that order. He said, although most political representatives had demanded the restoration of the state before the elections, they (PM) had emphasized delimitation, followed by elections and then state consumption.

The CLP leader said, while the delimitation practice has also been completed with the election and an elected government for the last eleven months, the Government of India has yet to fulfill its promise to restore the state. He said, the Congress said on August 5, 2019, one day after the day that Jammu and Kashmir should be restored to the state. Apart from this, he said, Rahul Gandhi, along with his 4000 km Bharat Joko Yatra in Srinagar, also wrapped Congress President Mallikrajun Kharge and said that the party had also said that the party would ensure the restoration of the state.

Mir thanked the Congress leadership for prioritizing the restoration of the state to Jammu and Kashmir during the monsoon session.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Naseer Hussain said, it was unprecedented that the powers of elected representatives were with undisclosed people like Lieutenant Governor. He said, once the powers are reinstated to the elected government, will the people of Jammu and Kashmir know only what kind of scams took place during the rule of unconnected people- such as sand and land scam.

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh revealed that although the Congress was a coalition partner of the ruling national conference, the party had taken a royal stance to not join the government until joining the state. He said, the Congress has made some promises to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, including the restoration of the state and is working by starting a collective movement.

Singh said that there was a strange situation in Jammu and Kashmir where an elected CM was being stopped by J&K police and was prevented from offering prayers. “They are being made helpless. No file moves forward without LG’s approval”, he said, while saying that it would have to change that not only the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister promised to restore the state, even the Supreme Court of India has given the same instructions. He also demanded that the center area of Ladakh be made like the UTS of Delhi and Puducherry should be made with its elected legislature.
