Lucknow, October 9 (IANS)
Addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow on the occasion of the death anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram, he alleged that the mentality of the previous SP and Congress governments was casteist and capitalist, which exploited and oppressed Dalits, OBCs and weaker sections of the society.
Stepping up her attack on Congress, Mayawati said, “During the Emergency imposed in 1975, Congress disregarded the Constitution of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and made it ineffective. Congress did not allow Baba Saheb to receive the Bharat Ratna.”
He said, “Congress is doing drama these days with a copy of the Constitution in its hand.”
Criticizing the SP for “using” Kanshi Ram’s name to woo voters, he referred to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav’s recent announcement of organizing a seminar in the memory of the BSP founder.
He questioned the “dubious” character of the SP, saying that when they are in power they do not remember PDAs, saints, gurus and Babasaheb and cautioned people to “beware of them”.
Mayawati criticized the SP for harassing Dalits and backward classes and promoting criminals, thereby “deteriorating” the law and order situation in the state.
He thanked the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government for using the money earned from the ‘Kanshi Ram Smarak Sthal’ (memorial) for refurbishing the area, unlike the previous SP government.
However, Mayawati criticized the BJP government for “not doing much” for Dalits and oppressed classes and appealed to the people to work for the formation of a majority BSP government.
Remembering Kanshi Ram, he said that the party founder sacrificed his government job for the welfare of Dalits and oppressed sections of the society.
The BSP chief also recalled Kanshi Ram’s contribution in fulfilling Babasaheb’s dreams and working for the upliftment of Dalits and other backward classes.
Mayawati said that during her rule, she worked for the inclusive development of all, including the upper castes, on her party’s policy of ‘Sarvajan Hitaya and Sarvajan Sukhaya’.
