A fire broke out at Birch by Romeo Lane, a popular nightclub in North Goa’s Arpora village, early Sunday morning, killing at least 25 people, including four tourists and 14 staff members, and injuring six others.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed his deep condolences to the people who lost their loved ones in the fire.
“This avoidable tragedy is an irreparable loss, and I pray for the speedy recovery of all those who were injured.
“Such tragedies require a comprehensive investigation, strict accountability and immediate steps to enforce all fire safety norms, so that such devastating incidents do not happen again,” Kharge said in a post on X.
The veteran leader also appealed to all Congress workers in the coastal region to extend all possible support and assistance to the affected families and stand by them in this hour of grief.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that he is deeply saddened by the tragic fire in Arpora.
Gandhi said in an ex-post, “My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured. This is not just an accident; this is a criminal failure of security and governance. A thorough, transparent investigation must fix accountability and ensure that such preventable tragedies do not happen again.”
Congress general secretary in-charge KC Venugopal demanded accountability be fixed for the tragic blast so that such incidents are not repeated.
“The fire at a night club in Arpora, Goa is shocking and I express my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives.
“This tragedy occurred due to the negligence of authorities in enforcing fire safety norms. We urge a thorough and impartial investigation to identify those responsible and ensure accountability, so that such a tragedy does not happen again,” he said in a post on Twitter.
