Congress demanded PM’s reply in Parliament on Pahgam attack, Trump Remarks, ECI action

Web Desk, 20/07/2025

The Congress party has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to the debate in the monsoon session of Parliament on various issues, including Pahalgam terrorist attack, claims of US President Donald Trump’s ceasefire, and the work of the Election Commission, especially the ongoing intensive amendment (SIR) of the election role in Bihar.

Congress General Secretary, in -charge of Communications, Jeram Ramesh said in a post on X on Sunday that his colleague, Gaurav Gogoi, who is the deputy leader of Inc. in the Lok Sabha, had placed these demands before the government during all the party meeting ahead of the monsoon session.

Senior Congress leader wrote, “In the all-party meeting convened by the Modi government today, my colleague Gaurav Gogoi, Inc.’s Deputy Leader, in the Lok Sabha, demanded demands to discuss in Parliament on behalf of Inc.”

He listed the major demands of the Congress party, including –

1. Statements of Pahalgam, Sindoor, LG Jammu and Kashmir, CD, Deputy Kos and President Trump.

2. Sir Votebandhan Exercise which will lead to large -scale disintegration in Bihar, West Bengal, Assam and other states, along with other ECI works, threatens electoral democracy.

3. Foreign policy challenges in relation to China, especially the failure of the neighborhood diplomacy, moral cowardice on Palestine, etc.

4. The restoration of the entire state for Jammu and Kashmir, the schedule VI status for Ladakh, and the status of Manipur (a state that is still waiting for PM’s visit).

Speaking on behalf of the Indian National Congress (INC), Gogoi urged to take these issues in both houses of Parliament.

He hoped that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would address important issues in Parliament, especially about defense, foreign policy and electoral structure.

Gogoi emphasized the importance of the presence of PM Modi in Parliament to provide clarity on the Pahgam terror attack, responded to the claims of a ceasefire mediation between US President Donald Trump between India and Pakistan and Election Commission’s functioning, especially in relation to special intensive amendment of electoral rolls in Bihar.

“There are some important issues that will be raised in the monsoon session, and this is the reason why we will address the country through the Sadan more than before. They are important issues Pahgam and security, as well as the Lieutenant Governor has said about it. A lot of time has passed, and the government will have to tell about it.”

Gogoi said that the government should explain the alleged security lapse in the April 22 terror attack in Pahgam and respond to Trump’s controversial comments.

He said, “The statements coming from the US President today, somehow, question India’s dignity, the bravery of the Indian Army. The US President’s answers can only be given by the Prime Minister,” he said.

Gogoi said that concerns have been raised continuously about the Election Commission and its functioning as the constitutional body has not given any clarification. He said that the Prime Minister has the responsibility of advancing the government’s status on issues related to elections.

“Important questions are being raised about the right to vote today. The way the Election Commission is getting away from talking to various political parties and is not clarifying. Regarding the upcoming elections in the states, important questions are being raised about the entire electoral structure and constitutional democratic structure. It is the head of the Prime Minister to pursue the situation inside the house.”

Gogoi emphasized the need to clarify the government’s need to clarify the government’s stand on defense and foreign policy, especially about the two-face axis formed on India’s borders with China, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

“The third thing is that our senior army officials have raised a very sensitive issue about the two-front axes formed along our border with China, Pakistan and Bangladesh. So it is very important that we talk about defense and foreign policy. It will be very important for Prime Minister Modi to come to this house and pursue our views on these three subjects.”

He criticized the government for dealing with the Manipur crisis, indicating that the state is still facing unrest and violence after about two and a half years, despite the Prime Minister’s promise of peace.

“Today, this government is also bringing various bills about Manipur and the Prime Minister had said that peace will come to Manipur in a few months. Nearly two and a half years have passed, and we are not able to see the atmosphere of peace. The Prime Minister goes to small countries.

Representatives of 51 political parties participated, which concluded the day before the monsoon session of Parliament, which began on Monday.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju appeared to enjoy the smoothing of Parliament.

In the opposition India block, Congress and other parties planned to jointly increase these issues, pressure for accountability and direct response to the Prime Minister.

After summarizing the all-party meeting, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh said, “On behalf of my party, I raised the issue that the US President is repeatedly claiming that he broke the ceasefire in the name of a business deal (between Indian and Pakistan). The government should clarify.”

Singh also criticized the controversial special intensive amendment (SIR) exercise in Bihar. He said, “Sir practice should be stopped in Bihar … If the government does not answer, we will raise questions both indoors and outside …” he said.

Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has also decided to raise several major issues, including Pahgam Terror Attack, Milkipur Assembly by-Polls and others in Parliament.

“This session is being called at a time when the country has seen big events, heart touching events. After a tragic incident in Pahgam (terrorist attack), the whole country displayed unity … Full support was increased to the present government. Our leader Akhilesh Yadav said that whatever steps are taken, it was standing in all political parts for the government. The steps are awaited to discuss.

AIADMK Mp M Thambidurai said the party will increase the plight of Tamil Nadu fishermen amid other pressure issues. He said, “Tamil Nadu fishermen are very suffering. The Sri Lankan army kills many Tamil fishermen, so it is important to pay attention to it. Similarly, whatever promise Sri Lankan government has promised should be fulfilled in time,” he said.

He further said that other issues will also be discussed including drug men’s, custody deaths and the implementation of reservation bill of women. He said that the party will also raise concerns over drug threats, custodial deaths and the implementation of women’s reservation bill.

The monsoon session will run till 21 August. The government expects a table of legislative agenda, which lists several bills for discussion and passage.

Some major bills include-Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill of 2025, Taxation Act (Amendment) Bill 2025 Bill, Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill 2025, Indian Management (Amendment) Bill 2025, Geoharitage Sites and Jio-Relis (preservation and maintenance) (maintenance and maintenance) (maintenance and maintenance) 2025, National Sports Governance Bill 2025 and National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill 2025.

Apart from this, there is a recurrence of the representation of Scheduled Tribes in the assembly constituencies of Goa Bill, 2024, The Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024, Indian Ports Bill, 2025, and Income Tax Bill, 2025 on the agenda.

According to an official statement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will brighten the media before the start of the monsoon session on Monday. (AI)
