Congress accused MP Sarkar of forcing farmers to buy nano fertilizer

Shahdol (Madhya Pradesh), September 18 (IANS) amid allegations about lack of fertilizer, a fresh controversy over nano fertilizers in Madhya Pradesh, among the distribution and discrepancies in black marketing.

The Congress on Thursday alleged that farmers are being forced to buy nano fertilizers with packets of solid DAP (DA-Emonium Fostete) and urea fertilizers, and farmers refusing to buy nano fertilizers will be denied solid DAP and urea at government-operated distribution centers.

Nano – A liquid form of fertilizer, which is an alternative to the solid or traditional form of DAP and urea – the cost is around 500 to 600 rupees per bottle.

Nano fertilizers are regularly included under the monthly supply scheme issued by the Department of Fertilizers.

During an inspection at a distribution center in Umaria district, State Congress President Jitu Patwari was told by the farmers that they were being forced to buy Nano fertilizers.

The farmers also accused of lack of DAP and urea.

However, the state Congress president inquired that the government employee responsible for taking care of the distribution of fertilizers said, “Farmers are being advised to use this liquid fertilizer as it is being promoted. But it is not to buy it or not to farmers.”

Later, talking to media individuals, Patwari alleged that solid DAP and urea fertilizers were being supplied to private vendors and farmers were being forced to buy liquid nano fertilizers.

He said, “Despite the clear instructions of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the BJP government failed to control the black-marketing of fertilizers,” he claimed.

Recently, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had instructed the district collectors to ensure that farmers received adequate fertilizers from the government -run distribution centers.

He also said that if there is any unavailability of fertilizers or disturbance due to irregularities in its distribution system, collectors will be held completely responsible.

IANS went through a press release issued by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers in July this year, which revealed that Nano fertilizers were being promoted through various activities like awareness camps, webinars, field demonstrations, farmer Sammalan and films in regional languages, etc.

The press note of the ministry said, “Nano urea and nano DAP have been made available by the concerned companies in the Prime Minister Kisan Samaridi Kandras (PMKSKS). Nano urea has been regularly included under the monthly supply scheme issued by the Department of Fertilizers.”

However, this is not the first time that confusion over the use of liquid form of fertilizers has created controversy in Madhya Pradesh.

The Congress has been continuously questioning the distribution of nano fertilizers on various occasions.
