Gatineu – The Bureau of Competition Bureau says that it has received a court order as part of its investigation in the conduct of Amazon related to its online Canadian market.
The regulator is investigating the fair pricing policy of Amazon.
The bureau says that the policy allows Amazon to punish vendors for some conduct, including if they set a price for a product on Amazon.CA that is much higher than recent prices at Amazon or other places.
Online marketplaces allow shopkeepers to buy products from both third-party vendors and in some cases, platforms. Third-party vendors usually pay a commission or other fees to use the platform.
The regulator says that the investigation focuses on the possible misuse of dominance and is different from its investigation into Amazon’s marketing practices.
The bureau says that Amazon needs to produce records and information in a court order from the federal court.
