Visakhapatnam, October 7 (IANS) During the commissioning ceremony of INS Androth at Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam Crafts (ASW SWC) will be found.
INS is the second in the series of eight ASW SWCs being made by GRSE for Androth Navy.
Commodore Hari said, “GRSE is proud to build these highly powerful ASW SWCs for the Indian Navy, and we are confident of distributing the remaining ships of the project according to the contract distribution program.”
The ship was delivered by GRSE on 13 September 2025. The warship, named after Androth Island in the Lakshadweep Islands, is also the second warship of this class, which has been installed by GRSE, a Swadeshi 30mm Naval Surface Gun (NSG).
The Indian Navy has ordered 16 advanced ASW SWC, out of which eight (08) are to be constructed by GRSE and eight (08) are to be constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited. GRSE has already delivered two ships of these 16 ships.
ASW SWC has about 88 percent indigenous materials, which shows GRSE’s commitment to the state of India’s self -realization and ‘Make in India’ approach.
These ships are able to monitor the coastal water on a full scale monitoring as well as search and operation of the attack. They can also run an anti -submarine campaign with aircraft. These ships have combat management systems and will be equipped with light torpedo as well as anti-submarine war rockets. These ships will have a total of 57 personnel including seven officers.
With three water jets (equipped with marine diesel engine), Androth is extremely tight and dynamic. One major advantage is that it requires a draft of only 2.7 meters, allowing it to reach the shore easily in search of sub-colors. These are also the largest water-jet platforms operated by the Navy.
“In this journey of self -sufficiency, the support provided by the Indian shipbuilding industry, especially GRSE, which is one of our best defense PSU shipyard, has been invaluable. Produced by GRSE, Androth, Androth, with more than 80 percent of Swadeshi materials, with more than 80 percent indigenous materials, designing, designing, developing and distributing sophisticated platforms that meet the highest operating standards is a symbol of India’s growing ability to develop and distribute India. What can happen that it is achieved when Indian skills, technology and most of the determination come together to achieve a general national objective, “Eastern Naval Command Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Vice Admiral Chandharkar said during the ceremony.
The GRSE is currently creating 13 more warships, including two P17A advanced stealth frigate, six ASW SWC, a survey vessel (large) and four next generation offshore patrol vessels. In addition, Shipyard is constructing 30 other ships, of which thirteen export platforms are. GRSE is also expected to conclude a prestigious contract to create a 05 new generation carvat in this financial year.
