Commissioner SMC reviews revenue receipt, progress under PMAY (U) 2.0

Srinagar, May 01: A high-level meeting to take stock of the progress going on in the receipt of revenue and the implementation-urban (PMAU-U) of Prime Minister Avas Yojana (PMAU-U) 2.0 today was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Dr. At Ovis Ahmed of Office Complex.

The meeting saw the participation of senior officials from various wings of the corporation including revenue, plan.

The Commissioner issued clear directions to speed up the speed of raising revenue in all the wards of the city. Ward-wise revenue goals were allocated to the concerned authorities, with instructions to intensify field-level efforts to meet the financial goals set for the current financial year.

Dr. Owais emphasized the importance of strengthening revenue collection systems, improving documentation and ensuring accountability at every level.

He said, “Revenue receipt is the backbone of our municipal functioning. In time and skilled collection enables us to distribute civil services better. All wards should now work on a mission mode to achieve their respective goals,” he said.

Focusing his focus on PMAY (U) 2.0 scheme, the Commissioner expressed concern at the slow pace of application processing and approval. He directed the concerned authorities to clean all pending matters without any delay, ensuring that the beneficiaries of the Central Housing Scheme, especially the economically weaker sections (EWS) and low -income groups (LIGs) reach the city of Srinagar.

To ensure the widespread participation and public awareness of the PMAY (U) scheme, Dr. Ovis stressed the need for comprehensive capacity building among the general public, with special attention to digital empowerment. He asked for the organization of ward-level awareness camps, online registration drives, and facility desk in ward offices, so that citizens can help in understanding eligibility criteria and online application process under PMAY (U).

“In the digital age, it is necessary that we empower our citizens with the knowledge and equipment necessary to reach government welfare schemes. Special training session and awareness drives must be launched immediately,” the commissioner said.

The commissioner directed the SMC Social Media Sale to explain the online application process for simple, multilingual user guides and videos and cooperate with local NGOs and ward committees to transmit information at the ground level.

The meeting reiterated transparent governance with the Commissioner, timely implementation of public welfare schemes and their commitment in ensuring inclusive urban development. He urged all the stakeholders to work with dedication and coordination for all to fulfill the financial spine of the corporation through strong revenue and strong revenue attainment.
