Commissioner SMC reviews preparations for Independence Day

Srinagar, 19 July: Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), FAZ LUL HASEEB presided over a high-level review meeting at SMC headquarters today, which was taking stock of the corporation’s preparations for the national festival.

He emphasized that the festival should reflect not only national pride but also the spirit of civil responsibility and inclusion. He directed all departments to work in close coordination to ensure the spontaneous execution of the schemes and urged each officer to behave this responsibility as a service for the nation.

The commissioner directed that major government buildings, public monuments, bridges and flyovers be illuminated with tricolor lighting. Road intermediaries and traffic islands are to be decorated with thematic floral arrangements and national flags.

He instructed the cleanliness wing to launch city-wide sanitation drives in the days to go till August 15. Sanitary supervisors have to ensure 24/7 deployment in high footfall areas and near places where official functions are scheduled.

Haseeb emphasized strict adherence to the flag code during all the performance of the national flag. All departments have been asked to ensure proper handling and hoisting.

The Commissioner directed the establishment of drinking water kiosks and mobile toilet units at all public festive places and major public places. In addition, he directed the Drainage Wing to deploy diverting pumps in low-fledged areas to remain on high alert and to prevent waterfalls in terms of rain.

The commissioner directed close contact with the district administration and law enforcement agencies to ensure traffic management around the places of congestion, emergency response and festive places.

He called upon the active participation of the children, senior citizens, members of civil society and cultural groups of the city. Awareness messages through LED screens, street arts and banners will be placed on strategic points to promote unity and patriotism.

The commissioner advised SSCL to use monitoring systems and digital signage for public messages, traffic advice and safety alerts.

The meeting was attended by all the Joint Commissioners, SE Drainage Circle, Secretary, Health Officer, Executive Engineer, Chief Engineer SSCL, Chief Sanitation Officer, Chief Sanitation Officer, Chief Enforcement Officer, Chief Enforcement Officer, Chief Anti-Annacructant Officer and other senior officials of SMC and Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL).
