Chennai, Nov 3 (IANS) In a shocking incident, a young college student was allegedly abducted and raped by three men near the Coimbatore International Airport in Tamil Nadu.

The incident happened late on Sunday night. The victim was later found naked, seriously injured, in an empty plot near the airport and was taken to a private hospital.

According to police sources, this horrific incident happened at around 11 pm in a deserted area behind the international airport. The student, who is pursuing her degree at a private college in the city, was sitting in a parked car and talking with her male friend, Vineet. Suddenly, three unknown people came near the vehicle, attacked Vineet and forcibly dragged the young woman into the darkness.

The men allegedly took turns to rape her before fleeing the scene, leaving her injured and in a state of shock.

Vineeth, who suffered serious injuries while trying to resist the attackers, managed to reach the Peelamedu police station and alert the authorities.

Taking prompt action, a police team led by senior officers reached the spot and launched a search operation in the surrounding areas.

After a thorough search, the police found the victim lying unconscious and without clothes in a nearby vacant plot.

He was immediately rescued and taken to a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Doctors said his condition is stable, but he is in deep shock.

Vineeth was also shifted to Coimbatore Government Hospital for medical care.

Meanwhile, the Peelamedu police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including kidnapping and gang rape.

A special team has been formed to trace and arrest the three accused, who are currently absconding.

Senior police officers visited the hospital and assured the victim’s family of prompt action.

Forensic experts have collected evidence from the scene.

The brutal attack has sparked widespread outrage among residents, with women’s rights groups demanding tougher punishment for the perpetrators.

The city police will intensify night patrolling around the airport area following the incident, leaving Coimbatore in shock and disbelief.
