A major incident has been declared after the coach crashed by dozens of school children. Reversed,
The 70-seater vehicle was taking the students back to the Minhed Middle School after a day’s visit, when the incident took place near the Minhead on Thursday afternoon.
Many people have been taken to the hospital, Avon and Summerset Police Said.
A statement by The Force states: “We understand that the coach was carrying around 60-70 people and at that time the minhead was going to the middle school.
“We can confirm that many casualties have been given in the hospital.
“Most of the passengers have been taken to a rest center in Whaddon Cross and we are working with the school to help them come as soon as possible.
“The officials are in school to help in that process, and we will ask any parents to make their head happy there.”
The A396 remains closed and the authorities asked people to escape from the area.
The coach was bringing the children back from one day, its operator has said.
Peter Pire-Sanki, director of the Reluce, said: “We were conveyed to one of our 70-seater vehicles at around 3.15 pm today, understood that it was as a group of school students, who had been returning from a day.
“We have been contacting both school and emergency services since then we try to understand the boundary of the incident.
“Everyone within the Ricler team is definitely deeply concerned and curious to detect more details – especially about the welfare of the driver and passengers.
“When we wait for more information from police and other emergency teams, our hearts definitely go out for school students and our driver.
“We will make every effort to understand what has happened.”
An Evon and Summerset Police spokesman said: “Around 3 o’clock the call came that a bus had reported a bus, a bus left the road near the junction with Ashwell Lane and Start Lane.
“Most passengers have been removed from the bus. Devon and Summerset Fire and Rescue Service are working to free the remaining and the South Western ambulance service is also on the scene.
“We have no information at the number of casualties or the level of injuries.”
In a post on X, Timarton and Minhead MP Rachel Gilmar said: “I have heard reports about a disturbed road traffic incident around the White Cross this afternoon.
“Emergency services exist, so please give them space to work.
“My thoughts are with everyone involved in the event.”
Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said: “I know about the serious incident which includes a bus near Khan, Summerset.
“My views are with all those people. Emergency services are on the scene, and I am receiving regular updates on the situation.”
