CM Stalin today approves 25-year transport scheme to launch the ‘Chennai Ondru’ app

Chennai, September 22 (IANS) The second meeting of Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (Cumta) will be held on Monday at the State Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Minister MK Stalin. In this session, the Chief Minister is scheduled to approve the 25-year comprehensive mobility scheme (CMP) for the Chennai Metropolitan sector and unveil India’s first integrated multi-model transport application.

CM Stalin will launch the ‘Chennai Ondru’ mobile application, a leading initiative designed to work originally on both iOS and Android platforms.

This app will integrate all major public transport systems – buses, suburban electric trains, metro rails, taxis and autorickshaws – in the same digital structure. A major feature of the app is a common QR-based ticketing system, which allows passengers to buy a ticket and use it in several ways of travel.

Passengers will be able to pay for their travel through UPI or payment card, to avoid long queues at ticket counters. The application will also provide real -time updates on buses and train movements, enabling passengers to plan their journey with greater efficiency.

It is being developed with multi-language support, including English, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, making it accessible to a wide range of users throughout the region.

According to officials, the initiative will reduce the waiting time and Chennai will increase the convenience of public travel within the metropolitan region.

By offering a single digital pass covering all public transport, passengers will be more flexibility and ease of travel.

The Chennai Ondru app is expected to play an important role in changing public dynamics in Chennai, which leads to the targets of sustainable and technology-operating urban transport.
