Hyderabad, October 19 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday said the “draconian” Dharani Act brought by the previous BRS government led to his defeat.
Soon after coming to power in the state, Congress removed Dharani and saved farmers from losing ownership rights over their land, Revanth Reddy said at an event where he handed over appointment letters to revenue surveyors.
He claimed that the people of Telangana removed the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government from power for bringing in the Dharani Act.
The CM alleged that the previous government had brought the Dharani law to give arbitrary rights over land to a handful of people and that is why people gave a big mandate against the BRS government in the assembly elections. “We had promised to eliminate Dharani and we fulfilled it as soon as we came to power,” he said.
Emphasizing that every struggle in Telangana revolves around land, he said the armed struggle by farmers was aimed at freeing them from the dominance of landlords. He commented, “We all consider the land as our beloved mother.”
Attacking the previous government for not releasing job notifications, CM Revanth Reddy said the “people’s government” was filling all the vacancies by releasing job notifications. He said, “By starting the job recruitment process, we are seeing happiness in the eyes of the unemployed.”
He appealed to surveyors to protect the rights of landowners and determine land boundaries. Saying that everyone should act responsibly, he warned that if the surveyors made a mistake, the government would have to face the consequences.
He said the officials should cooperate with the government to achieve the target of making Telangana a $3 trillion economy by 2047. The CM said, “We need your cooperation to move forward in that direction. Surveyors are partners in the development of Telangana. We all should also stand with the farmers who are considered the backbone of the country.”
