New Delhi, Nov 16 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday said the spread of misinformation, rumors and misleading content has emerged as a serious challenge, and stressed the importance of the role of media in countering this menace.
In a message on the occasion of National Press Day, the Chief Minister said, “In the present times, the spread of misinformation, rumors and misleading content has emerged as a serious challenge. In such a situation, the responsibility of the media becomes even greater – to maintain factual accuracy, strengthen the highest standards of journalism and provide clear, reliable and true information to the society.”
CM Gupta extended his hearty greetings to all the journalists, media professionals and members of the press fraternity.
The Chief Minister said that independent, fearless and impartial journalism is the strongest foundation of any democracy. Media acts as the voice of the society, brings to the fore issues of public interest, ensures transparency in governance and maintains the accountability of democratic institutions.
The Chief Minister said that journalism is not just a profession but a noble public service that demands courage, integrity, consistency and unwavering commitment to core values.
In today’s information-driven world, journalists work tirelessly to provide accurate, balanced and reliable information to the society and this dedication keeps democracy vibrant and people-centric.
Chief Minister Gupta said that media plays a unique role in building a strong, aware and participatory society.
He said, “Journalism is the force that guides public sentiment and acts as an essential bridge between the government and the people.” He expressed hope that the media fraternity will continue to perform its responsibilities with the same dedication, sensitivity and professional integrity in the years to come.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister attended a meeting of the Delhi BJP to chalk out a victory strategy for the by-elections to 12 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) seats on November 30.
