Amaravati, October 13 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday reiterated that the government is building the state capital Amaravati on a self-financing basis.
In his remarks at the inauguration of the Andhra Pradesh Capital Regional Development Authority (APCRDA) office, which marked an important milestone in the development of the capital, Naidu said those criticizing the development of Amaravati should note that the project has been undertaken on a self-financing basis.
The state-of-the-art seven-storey structure spread over a total built-up area of 28,562 square metres, has been built in the upcoming administrative center of Amravati.
Saying that Amaravati will be the focal point of governance, the Chief Minister said adequate infrastructure is needed to ensure that it does not remain a mere municipality.
Naidu said he would never forget the sacrifice of the farmers of Amaravati who came forward to give their land for the project.
He said, “We brought a new system of land pooling for the construction of the capital. The farmers of Amravati made this system successful. There was no land pooling system anywhere in the world. We started this system and we made it successful.”
The Chief Minister expressed happiness that the CRDA office is the first building to be inaugurated after the resumption of work in Amravati.
He alleged that the previous government tortured farmers for giving land under the land pooling system.
He also mentioned that when the previous government decided to shift the state capital, women farmers of Amravati took to the streets and struggled.
He said, “Don’t forget the difficulties you have faced. You should be rewarded for the sacrifices you have made. I am fully committed to this.”
He assured the farmers that their problems will be resolved and the government will ensure that they do not face any problem.
He asked Union Minister of State Pemmasani Chandrashekhar, Minister of State P. Narayan and MLA Shravan Kumar to take the responsibility of solving the problems of the farmers of the capital. He directed to talk to the farmers and solve their problems.
Naidu also assured that he would soon meet the farmers who have given up their lands.
The Chief Minister, who inspected each floor of the CRDA building, also reviewed the development works of the capital and directed that the works should be completed as per their scheduled time.
He took information about the creation of infrastructure required for the construction, where the work has started.
The Chief Minister clarified that there is no financial problem for the construction works.
Taking aim at the YSR Congress Party, he said that they mocked Amaravati by calling it a desert and the capital of prostitutes.
Naidu said he started the development of Amaravati with his experience of developing HITEC City in Hyderabad. He reminded that when the construction of HITEC City started, the price of land per acre was Rs 1 lakh, but now it has reached Rs 177 crore.
He said that the government is developing Amravati as Quantum Valley. Once upon a time it was information technology, but now areas like quantum, data center and artificial intelligence are the demand of the day.
“The foundation of Amaravati is very strong. We brought soil and water from the holy temples, mosques and churches of the country and laid the foundation stone,” he said.
He reminded that after partition, Andhra Pradesh was formed without a capital.
He said that the state was divided without identifying the location of the capital.
“We decided to build the capital here because its location in the middle of the state will be good for everyone. We are making the best capital. We are making a greenfield capital,” he said.
