Kolkata, 20 September (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated several Durga Puja mandaps on Saturday and used the occasion to send a message of unity in diversity.
Inaugurating the Durga Puja Mandap in Kolkata, Chief Minister Banerjee once again highlighted the issue of alleged harassment of Bengali speaking migrant workers across the country.
“In Bengal, separate communities celebrate the festival of Durga Puja. They all come together on the occasion of Durga Puja, which defines the unique spirit of Bengal.
“I respect my mother tongue. I also respect the mother tongues of other people. They should also respect Bengali. Migrant workers who speak Bengali should not be harassed in any way. We should remain united against all conspiracies to divide us.
The Chief Minister also urged the people to be safe in view of disorganized weather and asked people not to get wet in the rain.
“We have to be cautious. We are keeping an eye on the situation. If there is rain in Jharkhand, Bihar and our state, similarly, if there is a experience of heavy rains in neighboring states, then it is often the result of floods due to release of reservoirs.”
The Chief Minister said that she will inaugurate 3,000 Durga Pujas, most of these, in fact, beyond the five -day festival.
He said that 17 songs written by him would be released on Mahalya (Sunday), marking the beginning of the Devi Paksha.
On Saturday afternoon, the Chief Minister also inaugurated Hatibagan Durga Puja and Tala Protoy Puja.
He said, “I am not unveiling the gods, which can only be done with the palace, which marks the arrival of the Goddess side. I am inaugurating beautiful interiors, reflecting the heritage and aesthetics of Bengal only,” he said.
