Amidst increasing tension between India and Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir Haj Samiti officially canceled two scheduled Haj flights for today and tomorrow, severely disrupted travel plans for hundreds of pilgrims.
Executive Officer J&K Haj Committee, Dr. Shujat Ahmed Qureshi, confirmed the news agency -Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the Haj flight was initially set for today, which was canceled due to the ongoing closure of Srinagar Airport.
“Due to the prevailing condition, operation is temporarily suspended. The situation is assessed, but we had a high probability of cancellation – which has now been confirmed,” Dr. Qureshi said.
Two flights prescribed for 7 and 8 May have been canceled. According to the notification of the Haj panel, the revised schedule will be communicated accordingly.
“There was only one flight in which 320 pilgrims were determined to depart from Srinagar from Srinagar today. So far, there is no update on when services can resume. The closure of the airport and security concerns have left us very little clearly about the upcoming schedule,” Dr. Qureshi said- (Nu)
