Virat Kohli has been in the news after giving a brutal reply to his critics who were not happy with his approach and strike rate while batting in the ongoing IPL 2024. Kohli is currently one of the leading run-scorers in this year’s competition, but it hasn’t helped. He was constantly criticized and questions were also asked about his possible inclusion in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. After Royal Challengers Bangalore’s win over Gujarat Titans, Kohli opened up about the criticism and said that he is not bothered by the chatter. Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull reacted to Kohli’s reaction on Cricbuzz, saying that he should not bother with social media.

“Why is he bothering? I mean, seriously, the guy’s such a good player. Why is he bothering to read the crap written by some people or why are people reading it and telling him I just don’t understand what he did, why would you try to talk about it in interviews, he has better things to do. There should be,” Doull said.

“The interesting thing is that he (Kohli) goes back on these things because they won’t ask him. Are you watching your strike rate? Those won’t be questions. Apparently he is reading social media or someone is reading all the social media about him. He (Kohli) does this often in post-match presentations, where he has a point to explain about the things written about him,” he said.

Earlier, Kohli had said that it is more about winning games than maintaining a certain strike rate.

“Not really, all those people who talk about strike-rate and me not being able to play spin well, that’s what they’re talking about. For me, it’s about winning games for the team. And there’s a reason you did this for 15.” Over the years, you’ve done this day in and day out, you’ve won games for your teams, I’m not quite sure if you weren’t in that situation yourself, sitting down and talking about games in the box to me, People can talk about their assumptions day in and day out, but people who do it day in and day out know what’s going on and it’s kind of muscle memory for me now,” Kohli said. Said after the match.
