Bangalore:

Former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Saturday said clarity will emerge after the BJP Election Committee holds a meeting on the party’s candidates in Karnataka on Sunday.

The BJP is yet to announce any candidate for the state, while the Congress announced seven candidates on Friday.

“I am going to Delhi tomorrow. There is an Election Commission meeting tomorrow evening. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also participate. A round of talks has been held with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda .We can get a clear picture tomorrow,” Mr Yediyurappa told reporters.

On the seat-sharing arrangement with the JD(S), which joined the BJP-led NDA in September 2023, staunch supporters of the BJP said it was not yet clear which seats would be allotted to the JD(S) seats.

“We will not only know after we go there (Delhi) which share will be given to them, and which share,” he explained.

Mr Yediyurappa said the atmosphere was conducive to the BJP.

“We are confident of winning 24-25 seats under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. We are working in this direction,” he said.

Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi told reporters in Shivamogga that winning ability and loyalty to the party are the only criteria to get a ticket.

When asked about rumors that 50% of sitting MPs would be denied votes, Joshi said this was just speculation.

“Rejecting votes to 50 or 60 per cent of sitting MPs is not a criterion. Only winning ability and loyalty to the party are parameters,” he added.

Meanwhile, former chief minister and ex-union minister DV Sadananda Gowda on Saturday claimed that he is also keen to get the Bengaluru North ticket.

Mr. Gowda, who had announced that he would not contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, suddenly changed his mind and said he wanted to fulfill the aspirations of party leaders and workers in Bengaluru North constituency through the polls.
