A clash broke out during a procession to immerse the statue of Goddess Kali in Cuttack, Odisha, on Sunday evening. It is reported that 6 people were injured in this incident. The clashes started after an argument broke out between two groups in the Chandni Chowk area of ​​the city. The situation worsened when people from both groups began throwing rocks and bottles at each other, police said on Monday.
Police said a shop and three bicycles were damaged during the incident. The injured have been taken to local hospitals. Lalbagh police have registered a case and started investigation, an official said.
Agra policemen attacked while immersing idols
Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra, two people were arrested for assaulting a policeman during an idol immersion. A police officer provided this information on Tuesday. The officer said that Mukesh Kumar, the officer-in-charge of Biseribad outpost, was attacked by some people during the immersion of the idol at Samogarh Ghat on Sunday and he was seriously injured. He said the incident took place during the immersion process when the duo forcibly broke the barrier leading to the Yamuna river and immersed the idol in the water.
Kumar stopped them and the accused got angry and attacked him, the officer said. He said the officer was knocked down, beaten and his uniform torn during the attack. However, the police and people present rescued him from the clutches of his attackers. In-charge of police station Bamrauli Katara Saurabh Singh said that in this case, a case is being registered against two accused Virendra and Rakesh and legal action is being taken.
