Bengaluru, 6 October (IANS) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday condemned the incident of bouncing a shoe in Chief Justice (CJI) BR Gawai of India and said that caste-based inequality and intolerance still remains strong in some people in the country even after 75-year constitutional implementation.
After being moved to the social media platform X, CM Siddaramaiah said, “I strongly condemn the incident in which a lawyer threw a shoe in the Chief Justice Bra Gavai of the Supreme Court, which is an act of insult.
Justice Bra Gawai, belongs to the Dalit community, has increased the supreme position through merit and perseverance despite facing social resistance.
“Today’s incident is proof that caste-based inequality and intolerance still remains strong in the mind of some, even after 75 years of constitutional implementation,” CM Siddaramaiah underlined.
“Chief Justice Bra Gavai is not alone. I want to remind everyone that the countless fair minds who believe in democracy and constitution are standing in support of them. The Chief Justice is not related to any political party or religion. From this point of view, I appeal to people of all castes, religions, and political affiliation across the country, who are the Supreme Court today.”
“We should not forget that racist minds like Rakesh Kishore have emerged in society due to the division of people in the name of caste and religion, promotes mutual hatred and intolerance. Just as some people are seeing a killer like Nathuram Godse as a patriot, he is also looking at the advocate of the lawyer.”
A dramatic incident occurred in the Supreme Court on Monday when an elderly man tried to throw a shoe at CJI Br Gavai during a court hearing.
However, the shoes were reduced from the bench, and security personnel stopped the person quickly.
Unaffected by disintegration, CJI Gawai addressed the court, saying, “I am the last person affected by such things,” before continuing as proceedings.
Eyewitnesses said the incident took place some time after Monday before Monday.
The person was later identified through a proximity card as Kishore Rakesh, which is usually issued to lawyers and clerks, allegedly “India will not tolerate the insult of Sanatan”, as slogans shouting, before trying to throw shoes.
The attacker’s intentions are unclear, and security agencies are currently questioning him.
The incident came in view of a comment made during a comment made during a comment made during a public interest petition hearing a public interest petition about the reconstruction of the damaged statue of Lord Vishnu in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh.
Rejecting the petition, CJI Gavai reportedly said, “Go and ask the deity to do something themselves”, a comment that expressed wide resentment on social media.
Responding to the controversy, CJI Gavai clarified, “Somebody informed me that my comments were depicted in a certain way on social media. I respect all religions.”
