Guwahati, 19 September (IANS) Nupur Borah, tainted Assam Civil Service Officer was suspended from service on Friday, which was after his arrest after the arrest of Rs 1.7 crore from several residences of the officer in the state and after the arrest of jewelry.
The departmental order mentioned that Borah is in police custody to adopt various illegal means while being posted in Barpeta district.
Meanwhile, he was taken to the Goroimri Circle Office in Kamup district on Friday, where he was last deployed during his arrest.
Sleeves of the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell seized several documents from the office; However, the investigating officer did not explain any details.
Officials said that at least Rs 23 lakh was seized from two bank lockers of Assam Civil Service Officer Nupur Bora, who was arrested on Wednesday.
Bank lockers were in Barpeta district, and Chief Minister Vigilance Cell officials went there on Friday.
Since his arrest two days ago, Borah has been investigated by the investigating officials to find out the money trail involved in the illegal transfer of land posted in Barpeta district.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that strict legal action would be taken against Borah, who was allegedly detained to collect property for known sources of income.
Borah was posted as a circle officer in Goroimery under Kamup district at the time of his arrest, about 400 times more money than his official earnings.
The Chief Minister said that the measure of corruption was so worrisome that suspension or dismissal would not be sufficient punishment alone.
Addressing a public event in Baksa district, CM Sarma said, “He had received 400 times more money from known sources of his income. We believe that only suspension or dismissal is not enough. He will have to face punitive results through a legal process.”
Officials of the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell made extensive discovery in the residences of Borah in Guwahati and Barpeta, which recovered cash of Rs 92.5 lakh with gold and diamond jewelry worth about Rs 1.5 crore.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Vigilance Cell), Rosie Kalita described the recovery as the biggest cash seizure ever by SAIL.
Investigators also discovered the ownership of three flats in Gawati, which is associated with the officer, among other assets, among other properties under investigation.
Many persons are currently being questioned on suspicion of deals.
CM Sarma said that Borah came under a scanner about six months ago, allegedly serving in Barpeta district after authorizing an illegal land transfer.
Following the dispute, he was transferred to Goroimri in Kamup, where monitoring against him continued.
The Chief Minister urged people to be vigilant against corruption and report examples of bribery.
CM Sarma reiterated his government’s commitment to fight corruption, emphasizing that the investigation against Borah and his colleagues would be chased with full transparency to maintain accountability within the administration.
