New Delhi, Nov 23 (IANS) Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Sunday highlighted the role of civil servants in achieving Developed India@2047, and underlined the importance of last-mile delivery, teamwork and inclusive growth.
Addressing Civil Service Officer Trainees at the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN), Palasamudram, Andhra Pradesh, the Vice President urged officers to prioritize team excellence over individual excellence, and stressed the need for continuous learning and improvement-oriented thinking.
Radhakrishnan acknowledged the immense hard work of the probationers, noting that out of around 12 lakh UPSC aspirants, only 1,000 are selected every year.
He said that among the 140 crore people, they now have a rare opportunity to bring meaningful change in the society. “With great power comes great responsibility,” he reminded them and urged them to use this opportunity in the service of the nation.
Recalling the inauguration of the new NACIN campus by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2024, he said that the institute has emerged as a major center for capacity building in Customs and GST administration.
Encouraging the trainees to adopt emerging technologies – AI, NLP, ML, Blockchain – the Vice President said that technology offers immense opportunities for transparency, efficiency and citizen service delivery.
He described the IGOT Karmayogi app as an “excellent platform” for capacity building anytime, anywhere.
The event was attended by Nara Lokesh, Minister for Human Resource Development, IT, Electronics and Communications and RTG, Government of Andhra Pradesh; Amit Khare, Secretary to the Vice President of India; Dr. Subramaniam, Director General, NACIN and other dignitaries.
He highlighted the special significance of the year as the nation is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the father of All India Services. He said that Sardar Patel’s visionary leadership laid the foundation for transforming colonial India into a strong, developed and self-reliant India.
The Vice President lauded the Union Public Service Commission, which will celebrate its centenary in 2026, calling it the “custodian of merit, integrity and impartiality” in civil service recruitment.
Radhakrishnan stressed the need for inclusive development. He said both wealth creation and wealth distribution are equally important, and highlighted that PM Modi has emphasized on both wealth creation and wealth distribution for national progress.
The Vice President described GST as a historic reform that has streamlined the indirect tax system of the country.
He stressed that tax evaders should be curbed and punished, saying that laws are made for the betterment of the society and the nation.
He said that the law of the country should be implemented and this responsibility lies in the hands of the authorities.
