Counter-Intelligence Kashmir caught a person who presented a person as a senior officer of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Wing as a photo picture on its WhatsApp.
In a statement released here, a spokesperson said that CIK found a reliable input, suggesting that a man identified as Barkat Ali Parre of Ghulam Mohammad Parre of Sheltang, Srinagar, has motivated to threaten the profile picture and people using a photo of SSP CIK on his WhatsApp.
The statement wrote that after digital footprints, CIK caught the suspect at Jahngir Chowk, Srinagar and on examining his mobile phone, the suspect was found using SSP CIK’s profile picture on his WhatsApp account.
“During the initial verification, it was found that the suspect has downloaded the photo of SSP CIK from the Internet and placed it as his WhatsApp profile image, which is with the intention of portraying himself as a police officer,” reads it.
It added verification that the suspect has been involved in online gambling, including platforms like ‘Aviator’, ‘777’, etc., and some advances were paid on ‘777 gambling platforms’.
“When quizzed, it came to the surface that the suspect has misused the profile photo of SSP CIK and demanded a return of his advance payment to the organizers of the ‘777 gambling platforms’. Further verification and analysis of his digital device is in progress to find out if the suspect has made any participation in another social and moral activities,”
