Beijing:

China on Monday accused the United States of forcibly deporting Chinese students without any valid evidence and warned it would take “firm measures” to safeguard the interests of Chinese citizens.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a regular press conference that the United States has exaggerated the concept of national security and arbitrarily canceled the visas of Chinese students, banned their entry, and forcibly deported them without any valid evidence.

When asked about reports that Chinese students and scholars were interrogated and forcibly deported when entering the U.S. border at Washington Dulles Airport and Dallas Airport, Mao Zedong said that the U.S. move caused great harm to the relevant personnel and hindered Sino-U.S. personnel exchanges. . China and the United States.

Mao Zedong said: “Recent cases show that U.S. law enforcement officials are determined to find excuses to expel Chinese personnel. This is a typical case of selective, discriminatory and politically motivated law enforcement.”

China will take resolute measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens. The US should immediately stop its unreasonable harassment.

China’s state-run Global Times quoted China’s ambassador to the United States Xie Feng as saying that dozens of Chinese arriving in the United States, including students, have been denied entry each month over the past few months.

He said they had valid visas, no criminal records and were returning to school after traveling elsewhere or reuniting with family in China.

But when they landed at the airport, what awaited them was an eight-hour police interrogation. They prohibited them from contacting their parents, made baseless accusations against them, and even forcibly deported them and banned them from entering the country.

Last year, Indian students outnumbered Chinese students in U.S. educational institutions, the Department of Homeland Security reported.

Last year, the number of students heading to the United States climbed to 320,000, while Chinese officials said there were 254,000 international students in the U.S. amid concerns about the flight of scientific knowledge and a deteriorating environment in the United States.
