a man is shooting Killed after shooting at two police officers during child custody exchange North Carolina over the weekend, police said.
Police in the Charlotte suburb of Mint Hill were called to an Edible Arrangements store around 10:45 a.m. Friday for a custody exchange.
The man, identified by authorities as 35-year-old Tjamel Ali Hamlin II, began calling officialwho fought back. Hamlin was killed instantly.
Two officers, a 13-year veteran and a six-month veteran, were shot from the neck up and were initially in critical condition. By Saturday, they had been treated and discharged from hospital, the Mint Hill Police Department wrote on Facebook.
The shooting appears to have occurred inside the Edible Arrangement store.
Kevin Phayme, manager of the nearby Empire Pizza & Bar, told reporters at the scene that employees were taking a cigarette break when they saw two police officers entering the store and then leaving. One of the police officers had blood on his hands and face.
“Everything happened so fast, one officer had blood on his hands and another officer fell to the ground,” Farmey reportedly said. WBTV.
“Our hearts go out to them because they come to Empire Pizza a lot and they come here often, so our prayers are with them and their families.”
Farmey was encouraged later to learn that the officers were in stable condition Saturday.
“The comforting thing is, of course we’re still praying for them because no one wants to get that call,” Fame added.
In an update Saturday, authorities noted Hamlin’s family had been notified of his death. The firearm used was also found at the scene.
Authorities did not provide any other details about the shooting.
