Srinagar, July 24, KDC: Chief Secretary, Atal Dullu today held a meeting with the President of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Santosh Kumar Yadav to review the situation and the implementation of important highway infrastructure projects in Jammu and Kashmir accelerated.
NHAI Chairperson, who called the Chief Secretary in the Civil Secretariat, was with regional officer, NHAI Jammu and other senior officials.
Projects and newly approved road infrastructure initiatives aimed at increasing all-weather connectivity, supporting regional development and strengthening strategic road network in UT were focused on both.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary underlined the immense importance of these important road links for an area such as Jammu and Kashmir, which is very much dependent on external supply chains due to geographically sensitive and climately challenging terrain.
He emphasized that uninterrupted road connectivity is necessary to ensure smooth movement of essential commodities, especially during the months of rigid winter when weather -related disruption often affects mobility.
Special attention was attracted to NH -44 stretch between Banihal and Ramban, where the Chief Secretary emphasized the need for tunnels and wiangers to be completed on time to reduce the disruption caused by adverse weather. Highlighting the strategic and economic relevance of the region, Dullu said that tourism, horticulture and agriculture of the major areas of J&K are closely connected to the strong road infrastructure.
The Chief Secretary also called for prompt implementation of major projects, including Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway Corridor, Tunnel Construction on Jammu Ring Road, and increasing the speed of work on Srinagar Ring Road. He further impressed NHAI to prioritize the development of service roads with Domel-Audhampur and Kazigund-Srinagar Stretch.
