Chief Rabbi in the United Kingdom Sir Ephraim Mirvis has said that his family members “spent 15 terrifying minutes” hiding under a donut stand. bondi beach attack,

Chief Rabbi Mirvis said his cousin and his cousin’s wife were forced to hide when gunmen opened fire in a terrorist attack on a Jew in Sydney on Sunday, killing 15 people.

“People were being shot left and right,” he said. BBC Blamed “virulent anti-Semitism” for the attack.

,[People were] Chief Rabbi Mirvis said, “The aim is for the simple act of gathering together as Jews, clearly and peacefully, to those who will travel to Sydney in support of the local Jewish community.”

“Jews have been living with security concerns for as long as I can remember, but the fact that every public Jewish gathering today must be viewed as a risk is a sign of something deeply wrong.”

Chief Rabbi Mirvis’ comments come after Sir Keir Starmer called for police action When anti-Semitic slogans were raised during the demonstrations, he said the government would not tolerate hatred.

A spokesman for the Prime Minister noted the importance of freedom of expression, but said police would use their powers “more forcefully” to tackle anti-Semitism. Sir Keir also spoke to Chief Rabbi Mirvis on the telephone after the attack.

At least 15 people have died in the Bondi Beach shootings, including a 10-year-old girl, two rabbis and a Holocaust survivor.

Chief Rabbi Mirvis said that allowing people to chant phrases such as “globalization of the intifada” incites hatred and incites people to “engage in hateful actions.”

“Why is this still allowed? What does globalizing the intifada mean? Let me tell you what it means… This is what happened yesterday at Bondi Beach.”

“We have to be much stricter about what people are allowed to say and do in a way that incites hatred, that creates the violence that we have seen.”

The meaning of “globalization of the intifada” varies. Britannica says The phrase originated from the 1987–93 and 2000–05 Palestinian uprisings in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The slogan has since been adopted by protesters calling for pressure on Israel to allow self-determination for the Palestinian people. However, others link it to the targeting of Israeli Jewish civilians through violence, promoting anti-Semitic terrorism.

Also speaking to the Press Association, Chief Rabbi Mirvis stopped short of challenging whether Sir Keir’s government was doing enough to challenge anti-Semitism.

He said, “The British government is doing a lot, we appreciate what the British government is doing. We appreciate what the police forces in this country are doing for the physical protection of Jewish people.”
