Dhamtari, Nov 20 (IANS) In a significant step aimed at promoting renewable energy and ensuring access to electricity to every household, Nathukonha village in Dhamtari district has become the first solar powered village in Chhattisgarh under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme.

This announcement was made recently during the visit of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to Dhamtari. The minister handed over the certificate officially recognizing Nathukonha as a solar village to village head Akbar Mandavi.

According to the information, under this scheme, all the houses in the village have been equipped with solar panels. Now the people of the state are getting free electricity. The houses are filled with bright lights like never before.

This scheme provides subsidies from the Central and State Governments to those who want to install solar panels at their homes. Its objective is to provide free electricity to citizens and encourage the use of solar energy to make the country self-reliant in power generation.

Located on the banks of Madamsilli Dam, Nathukonha is surrounded by forests and hills and is home to 27 tribal families. The installation of solar panels under the scheme ensures that villagers now get electricity throughout the year, significantly improving their quality of life.

Villagers, who previously depended on kerosene lamps and limited grid supply, can now operate lights, fans and small appliances, transforming daily life and creating opportunities for education and economic activity.

Village head Akbar Mandavi expressed pride and gratitude on behalf of the society.

He said, “It is a matter of great pride for the village to be recognized as a solar energy village. We are grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making this possible.”

With this initiative, Nathukonha has set a model for renewable energy adoption in rural India, showing how government schemes can bring sustainable power solutions to remote communities.

The success of this project is expected to inspire neighboring villages to adopt solar energy, thereby contributing to the larger goal of clean, green energy and energy independence of the state and the country.
