Raipur, September 30 (IANS) PM Surya Ghar is demanding free power scheme, cheap and sustainable energy, giving impressive results in Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh as people’s scores have taken membership of the scheme and are benefiting from it.
Many local people have installed solar panels on their roofs and later getting relief from heavy electric bills.
Under PM Surya Ghar Free Bijli Yojana, solar panels are installed on roofs to promote the use of clean energy by reducing electricity bills of individual homes.
This scheme has not only given relief to people from expensive bills, but has also contributed significantly to environmental protection.
Lokesh Kumar Sahu, a beneficiary of the scheme, said that it has proved to be a boon for many people like him.
Speaking to IANS, he said that he has installed a two -kilowatt panel on his roof, and it has brought his electricity bill to almost zero. To set up a solar panel, he received a subsidy of Rs 60,000 from the central government and Rs 30,000 from the state government.
Lokesh Sahu said that earlier, his monthly electricity bills ranged from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200, which is now zero.
In addition, excess power generated from solar panels is transferred to the grid, which opens the way for additional income-creation for them.
PM Surya Ghar: Mufa Bijli Yojana is the world’s largest domestic roof solar initiative. Its purpose is to change the energy scenario of the country by making about one crore homes self -sufficient in solar energy production by March 2027.
By October 2025, the installation of solar panels under the scheme is expected to exceed 20 lakhs, 40 lakhs by March 2026, and eventually one crore by March 2027.
The ground-breaking initiative was launched on 13 February 2024 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
