Chhattisgarh CM to Inaugurate New ‘Mahatari Sadans’

Raipur, 23 September (IANS) Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai on Tuesday inaugurated the 51 newly built ‘Mahtari Sadan’ in Karlibari village in Dhamtari district, in which there will be an important milestone in the state push for rural empowerment.

Part of the state-level program, this incident, the launch of development and construction projects of Rs 245.80 crore in the district will also be seen.

Karlibari, located in Kurud assembly constituency, is one of the four gram panchayats in Dhamtari, where ‘Mahtari Sadan’ has already been built under the scheme. Other villages include Bhandri, Medha and Kharanga. These community centers are designed to promote self-reliance, mutual harmony and collective participation between women, especially among self-help groups.

The objective of the Mahtari Sadan Nirman Yojana launched under the comprehensive vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s self -reliant Bharat Abhiyan is to integrate the ability of women with national development. In the first phase for the year 2024-25, the Government of Chhattisgarh has approved Rs 50 crore for the construction of 202 Mahtari Sadan.

Each unit extends to about 2,500 sq ft and costs Rs 24.70 lakh. Facilities include a hall, room, kitchen, shop, shop, border wall, toilets and borewells.

Several local representatives will attend the inauguration ceremony along with Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, Minister Vijay Sharma, Ram Vichar Netam and Tankaram Verma.

In particular, two million women from self-help groups across the state will be involved in the event, outlining the widespread impact of the initiative.

Looking forward, the second phase of the scheme is scheduled to begin in 2025-26, with another Rs 50 crore approved for the construction of 166 additional ‘Mahtari Sadan’.

Each unit of this phase will be built at an increased cost of ₹ 30 lakhs, reflecting extended infrastructure and growing construction standards.

The ‘Mahtari Sadan’ initiative represents a transformative step in the rural development strategy of Chhattisgarh, which provides women not only a physical place but also for leadership, cooperation and economic participation.

As the state continues to invest in such an inclusive infrastructure, the vision of a self -sufficient and strong rural society goes closer to reality.
