Chhattisgarh: Accidental shooting at Raipur railway station, RPSF Jawan killed, passengers injured

A soldier of the Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) accidentally discharged his weapon at Raipur railway station in Chhattisgarh on Saturday, killing a soldier and injuring a passenger, an official said.

The incident took place around 6 am when the RPSF team, led by a sub-inspector, was alighting from the Sarnath Express after completing escort duty, the official said.

As Constable Dinesh Chandra (30) stepped out of the S-2 compartment of the train, his weapon accidentally discharged and a bullet hit him in the chest. He said a passenger, Mohammed Danes, who was sleeping on the upper bunk, also sustained injuries in his abdomen. The two were shifted to a private hospital, where the policeman succumbed to his injuries, he said.

The official said the deceased Jawan was a resident of Rajasthan, adding that investigation into the matter was ongoing.
