New Delhi, October 26 (IANS) Political leaders across the country extended warm greetings to the people on the occasion of ‘Kharna’ on the second day of Chhath Puja and wished for everyone’s prosperity and well-being.

The second day of Chhath Puja is known as Kharna. During this day, devotees fast from sunrise to sunset, abstaining from both food and water. The fast is broken only after offering Arghya to the Sun God at sunset.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited X and wished the people.

He said, “‘Kharna’ has a very sacred significance in Chhath Puja. The fast, worship and worship of Chhathi Maiya begins with ‘Kharna’ itself. May this holy occasion become a medium of well-being in the lives of all of you.”

Union Health Minister JP Nadda also greeted the devotees on the auspicious occasion and said, “I extend my hearty greetings to all the dedicated observers of the Kharan ritual on the second day of Chhath Puja, the great festival of gratitude to nature and worship of the Sun. May Lord Surya Narayan and Chhathi Maiya bestow all of you with happiness, prosperity and excellent health.”

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also said on social media, “Heartiest greetings to all of you on ‘Kharna’, the second ritual of Chhath, the great festival of faith and purity.”

He said, “On this sacred and holy occasion of fasting, I pray that the immense blessings of Chhathi Maiya and Lord Bhaskar remain upon everyone’s life and may your home and family be filled with happiness, peace, good health and prosperity.”

While wishing the devotees, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said, “Hearty congratulations and best wishes to all the devotees across the country including Bihar on ‘Kharna’ on the second day of Chhath, the great festival associated with Sun worship and folk faith.”

CM Yadav posted on Instagram, “May there be happiness, prosperity and good fortune in every house and courtyard by the grace of Lord Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. May everyone’s welfare and well-being be ensured, this is my prayer.”

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Kehav Prasad Maurya also wished people on ‘Kharna’ and said, “May the blessings of Chhathi Maiya make the lives of all of you bright, joyful and prosperous.”

‘Kharna’ symbolizes purification, prompting devotees to fast from sunrise to sunset to purify their bodies. The fast is concluded in the evening with a special prasad of jaggery rice kheer.

The consumption of the prasad marks the official beginning of the 36-hour Nirjala fast which is observed till the last day of the festival.
