Star Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Virat Kohli overtook current Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shikhar Dhawan and became the second player to score the most half-centuries in run-chases in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 35-year-old chess master reached the historic feat during RCB’s clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2024 on Sunday. Kohli played an unbeaten inning of 70 runs in 44 balls at a tremendous strike rate of 159.09. He hit 6 fours and 3 overhead boundaries against GT.

Kohli is second in the list with 24 half-centuries while chasing the target. Dhawan is at third place with 23 fifty-plus scores. Meanwhile, David Warner leads the chase with 35 half-centuries. However, for an Indian, Virat holds the numero uno spot.

The explosive partnership of 133 runs between Virat Kohli and Will Jacques also registered its name in the record books. This was the biggest partnership formed against Gujarat Titans in the history of IPL. Meanwhile, the 130-run partnership between Rajasthan Royals’ Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag is second in terms of the highest partnership against the Gujarat team.

Kohli also equaled David Warner’s record of most 500-plus runs in an IPL season. Both Kohli and Warner have crossed the 500-run mark seven times in an IPL season.

Recap of the match, RCB won the toss and decided to field against GT. After this, Sai Sudarshan (84) and Shahrukh Khan (58) performed brilliantly to take GT to 200/3.

RCB bowlers were sluggish in the beginning of the game. Maxwell, Siraj and Swapnil were the only wicket-taking bowlers for the visiting team.

Thanks to Virat Kohli (70) and Will Jacques (100) during the run chase, RCB defeated GT by 9 wickets and achieved its third win of the season.

Sai Kishore was the only wicket-taker for GT after dismissing Faf du Plessis in the fourth over.

After the win, RCB are still at the bottom of the IPL 2024 standings with six points. Meanwhile, GT is placed seventh with 8 points after winning four out of 10 matches.
