The artificial intelligence company said on Friday that it hasn’t rolled out the ads yet but will begin testing them in the coming weeks.

It’s the San Francisco-based company’s latest effort to make money from ChatGPT’s more than 800 million users, most of whom it gets for free.

Despite being valued at $500 billion, the startup is losing more money than making money and has been looking for a way to turn a profit.

OpenAI says digital ads will appear at the bottom of ChatGPT answers “when there are relevant sponsored products or services based on your current conversation.”

The ads “will be clearly labeled and separate from organic answers,” the company said.
