Charlotte Edwards Not worried about performance in their abandoned group game against England Pakistan And is confident that her “best cricket” is still to come in the Women’s World Cup.
England I was indebted to the rain Colombo On Wednesday their score was 79 runs for seven wickets, even after the score of 133 runs for nine wickets in 31 overs, Pakistan was not likely to face any trouble.
However, due to wet weather, Pakistan achieved the target of 34 runs without loss after 6.1 overs, leaving England unbeaten with four wins after four matches.
Just two points are needed to book a place in the semi-finals and Edwards’ team will look to achieve that against the co-hosts India On Sunday.
“We’ve talked about it, it wouldn’t even be silly, but one message to the team is don’t dwell on it,” head coach Edwards said after confirming Lauren Bell and Sophie Ecclestone were fit enough to play.
“It is a new game against a new team and we have learned lessons from the last four or five games.
“And if someone had told me a few weeks ago that you would be unbeaten in this position, I would have taken it and I think our best cricket is still ahead of us. That’s the most exciting thing.”
Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt scored a century against Sri Lanka and Heather Knight added 79 not out against Bangladesh, but most of England’s batsmen are still searching for form.
Asked if he was confident others would step forward, Edwards said: “Yeah, I’m really confident.
“I’m not worried. Disappointed that we couldn’t adapt enough, but not worried. Like I said, you have to move quickly in tournament cricket.”
“Look at South Africa, they were bowled out for 69 in the first game of the tournament and since then they have played really well.”
England defeated India by 152 runs in a warm-up match last month, but lost ODI and T20 home series to the same opponents this summer.
Former Mumbai Indians head coach Edwards, who was appointed only in April, does not put too much weight on those matches.
“We’ve been lucky to have played a lot of games against India over the last 12 months. We’ve got a lot of experience, but it’s a one-off game and in India, at the World Cup, it’s a big game,” Edwards said.
“We know the threats from India, but at the same time we have some great players in our group. I’m sure it’s going to be a great game.
“We know from the summer what a tough challenge it will be for India and certainly in home conditions, but it is exciting.
“We are excited to be here, there will be a lot of people supporting India, but it will be two points and two important points for both teams.”
