Champions League The holders will play a standalone opening match at home from the 2027/28 season.

The change is part of a new strategy for the next broadcasting cycle between 2027 and 2033, further details of which have been confirmed by UC3 – the joint venture. uefa and European football clubs – on Monday evenings.
A “Global First-Pick” package will be available, which would obviously be a good fit for a streaming giant with a worldwide reach like DAZN, Netflix or Disney.
If anyone secures those rights, it is understood that the first choice will proceed to the semi-finals.
UC3 also confirmed plans to run a tender process for the rights to UEFA men’s club competitions in the five largest European markets – England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain – at the same time, opening the possibility of a single broadcaster buying the rights to all of them.
UC3 has confirmed it will include a scope of four-year deals – more than has ever been done before in European markets.
UC3 said the deadline for tenders and global selection packages in the top five markets will be November 18.
Charlie Marshall, co-managing director of UC3, said: “UC3 is about driving a step change in European club football marketing through a closer partnership between UEFA and clubs.
“Based on the success of the new UEFA men’s club competitions format, we see a clear need to continue to innovate and bring new ideas to the market to unlock new value for competitions, clubs, our partners and our fans.”
