Chamoli Claudberst: Saved from two debris, many scared

New Delhi, September 19 (IANS) A woman trapped in the debris of the house and a landslide in Nanda Nagar area of ​​Uttarakhand was miraculously rescued with the help of local residents.

The incident occurred on Thursday night, in the last 48 hours, Chamoli district has been part of the great destruction caused by intense rainfall and flash floods.

Amidst the ongoing rescue operations, another person who was trapped under the rubble for about 16 hours was successfully alive.

The joint efforts of the police, the state disaster response force (SDRF), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the district administration have been important in protecting life like women and men in separate cases. Site officials provided immediate first aid before transferring the person rescued to a safe place.

According to preliminary reports, more than 30 houses in four villages were flattened or severely damaged, Kuntari Lagfali, Centi Lagfali, Dhurma, and Pali Lagfali, in the Nandanagar block of Chamoli, 260 km from Dehradun and 50 km from Gopeshwar.

The region is unsafe due to the already running land sub -part, and the latest cloudbers have only spoiled the situation.

So far, 14 people are feared to be trapped under the rubble and 20 have suffered continuous injuries. Search and rescue teams are stationed around the clock.

Earlier on September 18, a cloudburst on Binsar Hill in the early hours (about 2 pm) triggered the frightening floods and landslides in the Nandanagar region. The villages of Kuntari Lagafali and Dhurma were the most difficult.

Ten people were reported missing after the disaster. Among them are eight from Kuntari Lagfali – a family of four includes: Kunwar Singh (42), his wife Kanta Devi (38), and his two sons, Vikas and Vishal (both aged 10). Other missing people include Deveshwari Devi (65), Bhagwan Devi (65), Jagdamba Prasad (70), and Narendra Singh (40). From Dhurma village, Guman Singh (75) and Mamta Devi (38) are unaware.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep concern over the incident and posted on social media that he was closely monitoring the situation. “Local administration, SDRF, and police teams immediately reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations,” he said. “I pray to God for the safety of all.”

JCB machines and additional equipment is pressed into service to clean the debris and accelerate rescue efforts.
